SRW played an important role in the project as Owner’s Rep and Field Engineering oversight in the redevelopment of the Pennsylvania Station-Farley Building Complex into the Moynihan Train Hall, a 255,000 square foot transit hub located under a new 92-foot high sky-lit train hall in Manhattan near the Madison Square Garden. The Moynihan Train Hall will expand the Penn Station complex to 9th Avenue by creating 50 percent more concourse space and new access from the Farley Building to the existing train platforms that run below it. The project also includes state-of-the-art wayfinding, information displays and amenities to improve the customer experience.

In the heart of New York City, post Hurricane Sandy, SRW provided a dedicated team of Architects and Engineers to restore 14 buildings, including Beach 86 Concession and Comfort Station, scattered across the vibrant neighborhoods of Coney Island, Manhattan Beach, Brighton Beach, Rockaway Beach, South Beach, and Midland Beach. These buildings spanned the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. We embraced a vision that embraced resiliency, equity, sustainability, and healthy living, and wove these principles into our design solutions. Our commitment to excellence was underscored by the delivery of construction documents within a demanding timeframe, thanks to innovative administration methods.

Our work was a true collaboration, as we coordinated with nine other consulting firms, five city agencies, and three utility companies. Despite these complexities, our project was completed on time and well within budget, a testament to the dedication of our team. To cap it all off, our efforts were recognized with a special commendation from the NYC Public Design Commission, affirming our commitment to revitalizing the very essence of these historic neighborhoods.

SRW provided complete architectural and engineering services to recycle, renovate and expand this existing city owned building to serve as a permanent home for the City of Hudson Police Department and City Courts. The design challenge was to aesthetically enhance this existing butler building and provide all necessary special and technical requirements for these important city functions on a fixed and limited project budget. SRW met this challenge by engaging the client in the design process and understanding the specific cost challenges from the Construction Manager and City Representative for the project. The result is a functional building expressive of the dual use of the facility.

Located in the hype and happening area of university City in Philadelphia, PA SRW was tasked to do full architectural and engineering design work for a vacant corner lot on a quiet street populated by single family row homes. Given the neighborhood is part of a college community we designed 6 story multi family luxury apartments suitable for the students and young professional. The building has a variety of apartment layouts including bi-level units and single floor units. We took advantage of having the corner lot by designing a building with plenty of windows to bring in an abundance of light to the residents.

Located in a popular Philadelphia neighborhood SRW was tasked to do the full architectural and engineering design of a luxury home for a high profile client. Our client’s wishes were to have their dream home designed and built in the neighborhood that they loved without attracting too much attention with the exterior so SRW gave them just that. We designed a luxury home placed on 3 city lots that had a simple exterior with grand, modern and lustrous interiors.

Fishtown Rec is at the heart of the Fishtown community. Located at 1202-32 Montgomery Avenue, the Rec provides various activities for many groups of people. The outside has playground equipment, an enclosed hockey rink, several basketball nets, an area of tables for relaxation, and a spray area. Located cross the street, is the pool widely known as the Swimmo.

The indoor facilities hold various activities throughout the year. Currently, there is tae kwon do, ceramics, girl scouts, a Tot preschool program, summer camp, zoning meetings, Fishtown Neighbors Association meetings, and Advisory Council meetings. Also, every third month, a group for homeless veterans come out and use the facilities to help those in need.

SRW did the lead architectural and plumbing designs for the rehabilitation of the hockey rink. We made the rink ADA accessible providing two ADA ramps, two additional entry points as well as an area of refuge, provided new electrical work, plumbing work for site drainage and a new concrete paved rink with new hockey dasher boards, and hockey / pickle ball markings.

This historic home was originally designed by a popular modernist architect William Lescaze. SRW had the pleasure of renovating this historic home and was challenged to keep significant features. The new design includes 3 duplexes of mixed sizes across a total of five floors. With one floor added to the building, one of the challenges of this design was to not disrupt the original façade of the building. Thus, the upper floor added to the home was recessed out of the eyesight of pedestrians walking down the street.

Concord Baptist Church is a landmarked building located in the historic section of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY. SRW provided conceptual drawings for the redesign and reprograming of the main sanctuary, and the development of accessibility (ADA) plans for the entire church complex. SRW prides itself on preserving the important architectural past of this great Church while finding ways to upgrade and generate relevancy into the 21st century.

This building is a youth training facility outside of Center City Philadelphia. This was designed to create a built environment that would house programs and facilities to expose youth to trades and careers that do not require a college education. This design proposes a LEED Platinum certified building that includes: machine shops, flexible classrooms, garages, computer rooms, a gym, an art room, a greenhouse, a library, a carpentry shop, and so much more.

Lawnside, NJ | Architecture

SRW collaborated closely with the client to present comprehensive visual studies for approval by the Lawnside, New Jersey zoning board. Through iterative coordination on the design, ensuring alignment with the ultimate construction vision, SRW's visual studies served as a valuable preview for the client, depicting the proposed 69/13KV GIS Substation project. This encompassed the demolition of an existing abandoned structure, the introduction of a new building, installation of substation equipment, and the establishment of a secure fenced area around the site. By offering a localized point of view, these visual studies not only provided the client with a glimpse into the final construction but also empowered residents in the vicinity to visualize the completed site prior to the commencement of construction. This strategic approach significantly contributed to securing zoning approval for the project site.

Office of the Dean of Graduate Medical Education Rehabilitation

Preparation of construction documents to renovate the Offices of the Dean and corridor of Graduate Medical Education. Services included field survey, client design meetings, evaluation of estimates, and meeting with vendors regarding specialty.

Department of Dialysis Rehabilitation

Renovation of the back office areas of the Department of Dialysis for optimization of processes and JCAHO requirements including new storage areas, upgrade of equipment repair room, repair and upgrade of Reverse Osmosis room and service corridor. Services included preparation of construction documents, field survey, client design meetings, evaluation of bids and construction administration.

Department of Otolaryngology Library Casework Upgrade

Cosmetic upgrade and design of new casework for the Otolaryngology Library & Conference Room. Services included preparation of construction documents, field survey and custom details of the custom millwork as well as specification of finishes, furniture and equipment.

Baltimore, Maryland | Architecture

SRW was commissioned by a Baltimore Developer to join his team for several housing proposals at various areas of Baltimore. The designs evolved from an understating of the community housing needs and met the Developers development experience with infill housing. This specific proposal was a master plan that envisioned the establishment of a new community that would include a park and parking. The building designs were contextual, blending into the fabric and materiality of the neighborhood yet providing identity as a signature for new development. Several typical unit types of standard Baltimore lot sizes (14’; 19’ and 24’ plans) were developed to demonstrate the potential of the site infill approach.

SRW together with interior consultant Studio 2X is involved in the design through construction of five ZARA Stores. Completed ZARA Stores are located in Houston, Baltimore, Miami, and Denver and the New Jersey ZARA store is currently in contract documents.

Architecture

The challenges of this residential housing project included building on a site with restricted zoning and an active subsurface creek. SRW’s design solution included a carefully modulated unit configuration achieved by using a light gauge steel structure on a concrete matt foundation. The result is senior housing in a six story light weight metal stud building. This unique plan increased functional gathering spaces for social activity near the entry to the building thus expanding the self- securing of the building and achieving social interaction of the occupants.

On this children’s medical clinic rehabilitation project for NAC, SRW serves as architect of record which includes construction administration support to maintain the quality assurance and control of the design while pushing to meet the client’s schedule and budget in construction.

Situated in Mount Venon, just beyond the bustling streets of New York City, SRW faced a challenging yet rewarding endeavor – the architectural and engineering redesign of a 4-story, 28-unit residential building with vital ground-floor commercial spaces. These establishments offered essential services not only to the building's residents but also to the surrounding communities. The extensive rehabilitation project, backed by a combination of low-income housing tax credits and conventional financing, received support from key entities such as the Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), the New York State Department of Housing & Community Renewal (HCR), and Red Stone Equity. As SRW delved into the intricacies of the design work, they aimed not just to revitalize the physical structure but also to uplift the community spirit, ensuring that the renovated spaces would be a beacon of affordability and functionality for years to come.

Mt. Holly, New Jersey | Architectural & Engineering

This new commercial building is located in the historic town of Mt. Holly and was on the site of a landmarked building that had been torn down from structural failure. The SRW team had to design a new building that was in character with the surrounding neighborhood, meet the stringent requirements of the landmark commission and still make a statement of something a little different.

The Port Authority of NY & NJ required a temporary facility to house the machine, storage and staff requirements of their Staff Engineering Maintenance and Construction Unit (SEMAC). SRW developed a simple industrial building aesthetic with a functional plan to maintain the existing programmatic requirements found in their current location while allowing for the best possible design build construction process.

The New York City Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is responsible for all NYC budgets. As part of its function, OMB develops specific projects on an as needed basis. SRW worked on several projects for OMB. SRW provided MEP assessments for numerous facilities including but not limited to the Author Ashe and Louis Armstrong Tennis facilities, Bronx Community College Campus, Jacobi Medical Center and the Queens Zoo. These projects were necessary assessments for OMB to determine capital budget requirements for New York City’s physical assets.

Somerdale, NJ | Architecture & Engineering

Terra Del Sole is a 4 building active adult development containing 108 units. We arranged the buildings in a way that provided a community aspect with a design that intertwined the buildings and site for seamless indoor/outdoor activities. Each individual building also had its own community and exercise facilities so social engagement could take place indoors in inclement weather. This condominium complex was designed and approved for construction, but unfortunately fell victim to the financial crisis of 2008 and was never built.

Mt. Vernon, New York | Architecture

SRW designed this mixed use 207,500 SF, twelve story (12) building including residential and commercial and parking facilities. The residential portion is roughly 120,000 SF including 224 dwelling units with public outdoor spaces, community and exercise facilities. There is roughly 17,500 SF of commercial space and parking for roughly 100 cars. SRW was responsible for the programing and design assisting the Owner/Developer in determining the maximum program uses but was also responsible for zoning analysis and in assisting the City of Mount Vernon in the rezoning of the East Third Street Area that would allow an increase in residential occupancy and bulk. The rezoning would achieve an Empire Zone that would allow for various benefits including real estate property credits, sales tax exemptions, wage tax credits and utility rate reductions.
