LISC have been a great part of community development, making it better and more comfortable for people all around the city.
NOMA National meeting in Phoenix AZ
As a Membership Chair for NYCOBA NOMA, Erasmus attended the NOMA National meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. The main purpose of the meeting is to promote and makes sure that the mission and goals of the organization is followed. The national meeting is for the board members of NOMA, where the members plans, programs and make sure there are enough resources for all local chapters and to help the local chapters in areas where they need assistance.
MAX bond lecture - Archtober 2015
October is NYC’s Architecture and Design month. Throughout that month, there are activities, programs and exhibitions taking place all over the city. The purpose of this annual event is to remind everyone how important architecture and design is in everyday life. This year, Yvette attended the annual Max Bond Lecture, titled Conversations Community presented by Phil Freelon, FAIA, NOMA a progressive leader in architecture, managing director at Perkins & Will and founder of the Freelon Group. The talk focused on design for community, buildings for civic, cultural and educational clients that bring design excellence to everyday people.
Richard presents at the annual NOMA Conference
At the annual 2015 NOMA conference Richard presented the topic of landscape resilience and changing place with Elizabeth Kennedy, principal of Elisabeth Kennedy Landscape Architect. Theydiscussed issues where resilience are reshaping ideas of neighborhoods in ways not fully anticipated and, how oftentimes parts are overlooked that are significant for the resiliency puzzle.
NOMA RISE Conference 2015
The National Organization of Minority Architects hosted their Annual National Conference & Exposition for the 43rd time. This year it took place in New Orleans, Louisiana and SRW was present in full force with Yvette, Erasmus, Richard, Cappy and Natasha in attendance. This year NOMA`s conference theme was RISE: Social Justice by design. It emphasized how NOMA has always been engaged in communities and continues to promote social equality in the design processes.
SRW wins (2) multifamily “Build it Back” resiliency projects
SRW is a prequalified resiliency consultant in NYC`s multifamily Built it Back program. We will provide architecture and engineering services to design resiliency solutions to (2) multifamily buildings, that are located in coastal communities that were awarded community Block development +FEMA funds.
NYCOBA NOMA - Arch of a Career Symposium
Yvette and Erasmus attended an event that was hosted by NYCOBA NOMA and the AIA Diversity & Inclusion Committee of AIA NYC called Arch of a Career Symposium at the Center for Architecture on August 1, 2015. The purpose of this event is to invest in raising visibility among architects in the industry by achieving personal branding. George Miller was the keynote speaker and there were several of panel discussions to learn and understand the importance of brand and self-promotion.
SRW wins resiliency projects at (3) of the National Family Development Centers
These projects are direct results from a flood mitigation feasibility study of 11 Early learning Centers to implement resiliency and flood mitigation measure to avoid future flood damage. The feasibility study was used to secure a head start grant to fund the resiliency projects.
PACE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Another person from our incredible team graduated from the PACE Construction Management Certificate Program. Congratulations Natasha! The Construction Management Certificate program is a program designed to provide knowledge of the regulatory, insurance, management, safety, estimating, and environmental aspects of the construction management industry.
BxW Exhibit Opening and Awards Presentation
Built by Women, also known as BxW, is an educational and social initiative, celebrating women’s contribution to the built environment. They wish to empower the diversity of women working in different profession by recognizing and supporting their work. Orah attended the BxW March 2, 2015 by going to their exhibition that took place at the Center for Architecture, the NYC headquarters for AIA. The exhibition exhibited 98 different sites created by women in engineering, architecture and construction industries. It was an amazing event that created awareness in industries where women are a minority.
